My Thoughts

I know most people don’t actually care what other people think. I on the other hand care a great deal about what other people think and believe. The thoughts, ideas, beliefs and opinions of other people are one of the highest forms of education available. Sure we can learn about history in a book, but how many older folks have you listened to? I don’t mean talked at or humored...I mean LISTENED to? The same goes with children. Kids see the world from the most magnificent vantage point.  We can talk more about that later on; for now let’s go back to where I was going before I got off track.

A very special person in my life gave me kind of a challenge a couple of weeks ago. She said to put my thoughts on paper; not just any thoughts, but the things I am grateful for. Her challenge was for 100 things. At first I was kind of stunned and wondered how many things in my life I really was grateful for.  Then I started my list; the first hundred went by fast, then the second hundred even faster and the third hundred well…that was not hard to define either. I’m adding to my list daily.

Yesterday we got snow. I am not a winter time person. I have some issues with my bones and joints and when the weather is cold it’s pretty tough to get my hands to work, add a cold rain its worse…add snow and it’s pretty unbearable. Anyway, I did my normal amount of complaining and whining before I realized that I was actually grateful for the snow. Yes, that shocks me too!

I’m southern, so driving in it is out. Those of us raised in the south were put here for a reason. I kind of figure it was to keep us from DRIVING in snow. Have you ever watched a true southerner drive in snow? It’s NOT a pretty picture.

Ok back to my point about being grateful for the snow. I have a very sweet girl in my life. She is a beautiful Pit Bull. She turned 3 years old on November 18th last year. Jade has hip dysplasia and some days she has a horrible time getting around. She is also a very cold natured little girl. She sleeps under a blanket and loves to snuggle on cold evenings. To my complete amazement yesterday and late into the evening she wanted to play in the snow. Normally she goes out her own door into our large fenced back yard with Drae my 15 year old Pit/Boxer mix. Drae would have no part of the snow. But Jade was insatiable. She begged for someone, anyone to go and play with her. Out the door into the back yard she would dash. Her nose would go under the snow and she would throw it into the air, bark and dance around. She acted like she was 3 months old not 3 years old. She chased snowballs and ran around catching snowflakes in her mouth.

I laughed until I cried. Then I had to wonder if it was because of her that my yard was covered in white. Had God actually sent the snow for her? That may be one reason; but I figure the other was so he could show me that there is a blessing in everything. We just need to drop the complaining and look for the good stuff.

Snow is now on my list of things I’m grateful for.  So, what are YOU grateful for?

If you are interested in my list you will have to read my newsletter.

See you soon!
